The speed sensor is on the left side (looking from the back towards the front of the motorcycle). Just FYI, here is the speed sensor coming off of the drive shaft behind the left saddlebag. The speed sensor connection for the Speedo Healer is behind this red cover. Take off the seat. There are two screws. One pointed out by the arrow and one on the opposite side. Also, remove the screw on the red cover. After removing the screw on the red cover, remove the cover by pulling it straight away from the bike. It is held on by 2 rubber grommets. The arrow points to the speed sensor coupler. Pull the connection apart. There is a little tab holding the connector together that will need to be depressed in order to get it apart.Hook the SH harness into the appropriate connectors. It only goes one way. The Yamaha plug and go kit works perfectly with no splicing required. Here is a close-up of the connection. Run the cable up under the bar towards the battery and hook the wires up to the Speedo Healer unit. The speedo healer fits nicely right behind the battery. You can barely see it next to the intercom. Note, none of the wires in this example have been secured yet. Put the red cover back on. Figure out the error that needs to be adjusted and make the adjustments to the Speed Healer per their instructions. Put the seat back on and you’re good to go. Be sure to verify that your adjustment was correct before believing your speedometer to be accurate. With the right adjustment, it will be, but don’t wait for a cop to tell you that you miscalculated! The electronic cruise control was not affected by the installation of this unit. I ended up setting mine to -7.5% after chasing my wife’s ’03 Vue for a couple of times. I ended up reading 59mph to her 60mph (previously it read 65mph to her 60mph) which is right where I wanted it since her speedometer reads a little fast, too. My back tire is about halfway worn. Your adjustment may vary

In a piston valve, the control of stem and seat leakage is obtained by tightness of the valve sealing rings to the body and valve plug. The bonnet compresses the valve sealing rings against the body and the valve plug. Flexible disc springs automatically assure a tight seal by exerting pressure on the valve sealing rings, keeping them compressed. Opening and Closing the TVS Isolation Valves The isolation valve begins to stop flow when the valve plug enters the lower valve sealing ring. When the isolation valve is completely closed, the valve plug is in contact with the full height of the valve sealing rings, ensuring the best possible seal. In fact, there is no advantage to be gained in torqueing the valve closed. Armstrong recommends that after closing the isolation valves completely, the handwheel should be turned back one half turn. This makes it easy to re-open the valve by avoiding metal to metal seizure. Troubleshooting – Isolation Valves A piston valve will retain its leak tightness for several years without maintenance. In severe service, such as rapid heating and cooling, some field maintenance may be required. Depending on the problem, these simple steps may help: ! ! ! ! ! Isolation Valve leaks, when the valve is closed . First, Check to make sure the valve is actually closed . Check to see if bonnet is seated on the body, if not, tighten the bonnet nuts until the bonnet seats. This recompresses the valve sealing rings against the body and the valve plug. If valve continues to leak, replace the isolation valve assembly

Stand Installation. Locate the four mounting holes on the frame that correspond with the holes in the centerstand. Slide the front of the centerstand up into the frame and align the large bolt holes with those in the frame. Install the (2) 7/16″ x 1″ bolts with washers thru the frame and centerstand. Install the (2) 7/16″ nuts and make finger tight. (on California models the fuel tank vent canister must be removed and the hoses bypassed see note below) Pivot the rear of the centerstand up to align the (2) smaller holes in the stand with those in the frame. Insert a phillips screwdriver into one of the (2) remaining mounting holes and pry the other hole into alignment. Install one of the ¼” x ¾” bolt with a washer from the top down thru the frame and centerstand. Install the lock nut finger tight. Remove the screwdriver and install the remaining ¼”x¾” bolt washer and nut. Tighten the ¼ ” bolts securely 10-12 ft. lbs., then tighten the 7/16″ bolts securely 20-24 ft. lbs. 2. Stop Bumper Installation. Next install the centerstand-stop bumper and bracket onto the frame. Locate the bolt “A” in photo #1. Notice there is another 10 mm bolt just below it. Remove the lower bolt. Attach the bumper bracket to this hole using the longer bolt and washer supplied. The leg of the bracket with the bumper should face inward towards the center of the motorcycle. Adjust the height of the bracket to keep the pedal arm 3/8″ to ½” from the bottom of the exhaust pipe. Tighten securely. 3. Emissions Valve Relocation. You will notice that the right leg of the stand near the foot comes in contact with the emissions valve. The valve needs to be moved outward or to the right as you are sitting on the motorcycle approximately ¾”. This is done as follows: Remove the (2) 10 mm bolts holding the emission valve and bracket to the frame. See photo #2. With the hoses still attached pull the valve down to gain access to the (3) allen screws. Remove the (3) allen screws and (2) nuts holding the bracket to the valve, turn the bracket over and re-assemble the valve onto the bracket as shown in photo #3. Re-install the valve onto the frame. You may need to rotate the hose clamp clips out of the way and/or bend the entire valve bracket assembly outward slightly to gain clearance between the centerstand leg and foot. 4. Using Your New Centerstand. To put the motorcycle up onto the centerstand, hold the left handle bar and saddlebag guard rail. Using the ball of your right foot, lower the stand to the ground. Rock the motorcycle from side to side slightly until you feel both feet of the stand touching the ground. Now, put all of your weight on to the centerstand pedal (stand on it). Pull up and back on the grab rail using a rocking motion to rock the motorcycle up on to the stand. Remember it is a matter of using your body weight and leverage not lifting! 5. Getting the Bike Down off the Centerstand. Holding the left handle bar and saddlebag guardrail, firmly rock the motorcycle off the centerstand. You can also rock it off while sitting on the motorcycle.

1. Loosen the bolt on the front clamp securing the muffler to the headpipe. Important: Do not unbolt the OEM headpipes. 2. Loosen and remove the bolt from the muffler hanger located beneath the saddlebag. 3. Pull the muffler off the headpipe. It may be necessary to rotate the muffler and wiggle it a bit to free it. 4. Place a new exhaust clamp on the front of your new Oval Slash pipe. 5. Slide the new exhaust over the headpipe by rotating it and pushing it forward at the same time. 6. Align the hole in the mounting bracket and reinsert the OEM rear mounting bolt with the supplied nut and lock washer. Finger tighten only at this point of the installation. 7. After the brackets are in place, securely tighten all exhaust pipe clamps and brackets. 8. Reinstall the saddlebag. 9. Repeat Step #1 through Step #9 for the other side of the motorcycle. 10. For optimum performance we recommend the carburetors air/fuel mixtures be adjusted for the change in exhaust flow and back pressure. For best results, this procedure should be performed by a qualified Yamaha service technician. 11. Tighten all bolts/nuts after riding 100 miles, including baffle retaining screws

The new K bikes feature updated transmission and clutch assembly, plus smoother engine performance and new switchgear. Von Kuenheim continues: “By raising capacity to 1300 cc, our engineers have not only increased output but also torque on all three models. At the same time the driveline was intensively revised from air/fuel mixture formation right through to the exhaust system. In this way we have been able to optimize partial load behavior as well as throttle response. Now the clutch can be operated with even less effort and with greater refinement. Shifting has been improved tangibly due to constructional changes to the gearbox and drive.” BMW is introducing new options for the 2009 as well. The popular Electronic Suspension Adjustment that first appeared on the 2005 K 1200 S has now been updated with even more on-the-fly adjustability and it’s called ESA II. Also new is the quick-shifter option, racing-style gear shift assistant, borrowed from BMW’s race-ready HP2 Sport. Automatic Stability Control (ASC) is also offered as an option on the new K bikes. “Both the K 1300 S and also the R will also have the shift assistant – familiar from the HP2 Sport – available as an option for the first time,” von Kuenheim emphasized. “We have also advanced the chassis. The new lower longitudinal strut is now made of aluminum and is thus considerably lighter. This makes the front wheel guidance response even more sensitive. The result of this comprehensive development work is superior handling, improved rideability and lower fuel consumption. The electronically adjustable suspension – called ESA in short – was launched as a world first on the K 1200 S. Now we are presenting the new, well-proven ESA II as an option for the K Series. Apart from the suspension and damping this unique system also allows the spring rate to be adjusted at the press of a button. The K Series model revision also heralds a new and innovative generation of switches and controls.

INSTALLATION NOTE See Figure 3. When installing Tour-Pak to Rack in the following Steps, note that holes on Rack provide two positions for mounting Tour-Pak in desired location. 1. Place Tour-Pak on support tube and open lid. NOTE See Figure 3. In the following step, the longer bolts (6) are used for 2005 and earlier (King only) and Chopped Tour-Paks while the shorter bolts (5) are used for Leather Tour-Pak and 2006 and later King Tour-Paks. 2. See Figure 3. Obtain bolt (5 or 6), two flat washers (3), concave spacer (4) and hex lock nut (2) from kit. Align rear center hole in Tour-Pak with same hole in support tube (8). Slide bolt with flat washer through Tour-Pak, through support tube, then through concave spacer (with concave side facing support tube). At bottom of support tube, install washer (3) and nylock cap nut (2). With concavity on spacer inline with the rail, hold nut and tighten bolt until snug. 3. Obtain bolts (5 or 6), two flat washers (3), concave spacer (4) and hex lock nut (2) from kit. Align top support tube (8) with detachable tour-pak rack holes (four). Slide bolts with flat washer through Tour-Pak, through support tube, through concave spacer (with concave side facing support tube) then through rack. At bottom of detachable tour-pak rack, install washer (3) and nylock cap nut (2). With concavity on spacer inline with the rail, hold nut and tighten bolt until snug. NOTE Always install the mounting bolts from inside the Tour-Pak. If the bolts are installed upside down, then the ends of the bolts can tear the molded liner and scratch objects, such as helmets, stored inside the Tour-Pak. 4. Repeat Step 3 and install hardware to the remaining three holes in Tour-Pak and mounting rack. 5. In a crosswise pattern, alternately tighten the five bolts to 96-120 in-lbs (10.8-13.5 Nm) . Be sure that concavity on each spacer is inline with the rail and has not rotated out of position. INSTALLATION-TOUR-PAK AND RACK 1. Follow the instructions included in the docking point kit and install docking points. 2. See Figure 1. While standing behind the motorcycle, place the front Tour-Pak rack notches into the front docking points (1). Make sure the notches seat fully into the front docking points. 2 1 is04025 1. Speedometer Cowling Chrome 1 2 Alcohol Wipe 1 NOTE: Allow time for the 3M® brand quality tape to cure for 24 hours at 19-32° C before washing or waxing the motorcycle. INSTALLATION 1. Position the Speedometer Cowl in front of the Speedometer. The Cowl attaches to the Speedometer Cover, not on the rubber ring around the Speedometer. The Cowl should be symmetrically located in relation to the Speedometer, use the Speedometer markings as a reference. 2. Remove the red backing tape from the adhesive strip on the base of the Speedometer Cowl. 3. Position the Speedometer Cowl as done in step 1. Make any position adjustments now. 4. Firmly press the Speedometer Cowl in place on the Speedometer Cover. 5. Allow twenty-four hours for the adhesive to fully set before washing or waxing.
