INSTALLATION NOTES Clean the controller mounting area and the areas where the light pods will be mounted with soap and water before beginning the installation, and allow to dry thoroughly. Remove debris, dirt and grime from the vehicle areas to be highlighted. Ambient temperature should be at least 50 °F (10 °C) for proper adhesion of the light pods and controller box to vehicle surfaces. Light pods should not be located closer than 2.5 inches (63.5 mm) from exhaust pipes or mufflers, and must have 1.5 inches (38.1 mm) clearance from engine cylinders and heads. Do not install light pods with the light source facing directly away from the vehicle. Installation should be done in a way that allows the light to be seen indirectly by reflecting from chrome or painted surfaces of the vehicle. Prepare the Motorcycle To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect battery cables (negative (-) cable first) before proceeding. (00307a) Disconnect negative (-) battery cable first. If positive (+) cable should contact ground with negative (-) cable connected, the resulting sparks can cause a battery explosion, which could result in death or serious injury. (00049a) 1. Refer to the owner’s manual and follow the instructions given to disconnect the battery cables, negative (-) cable first. NOTE For 2004 and later XL (Sportster®) models, the negative battery cable is most easily disconnected at the engine crankcase . Locate and Install the Controller NOTE Do not mount the controller box in a location where vehicle suspension travel could result in contact with the ON/OFF switch or dimmer control. Damage to the controller box will occur. 2. See Figure 2. Locate the controller box (10) on a flat surface that will allow the red (+) and black (-) leads to reach the battery terminals and the rider to access the controls (with the vehicle parked) and, if necessary, the in-line fuse holder (A). a. Test-fit the controller box to the selected surface before installation. Do not remove the adhesive backing until ready to attach the controller box. b. Clean the controller box mounting area with one of the included alcohol swabs. Allow to dry thoroughly. c. Remove the liner from the adhesive backing of the controller box. Carefully position the controller box to the surface, and press firmly into place. Hold the controller box in position with steady pressure for about one minute. Connect the Battery Cables NOTE Verify that the ignition/light key switch is in the OFF position before attaching the battery cables. 3. Verify that the ignition/key switch is turned to the OFF position. Apply a light coat of Harley-Davidson electrical contact lubricant (part number 99861-02), petroleum jelly or corrosion retardant material to the battery terminals. Connect positive (+) battery cable first. If positive (+) cable should contact ground with negative (-) cable connected, the resulting sparks can cause a battery explosion, which could result in death or serious injury. (00068a) 4. Refer to the owner’s manual and follow the instructions given to install first the vehicle’s positive (+) battery cable then the red (+) light pod controller lead ring terminal to the positive (+) battery terminal. Tighten to owner’s manual specifications. Install first the vehicle’s negative (-) battery cable then the black (-) light pod controller lead ring terminal to the negative (-) battery terminal. Tighten to owner’s manual specifications. Arrange the Electra-Glo Light Pods NOTES Electra-Glo light pods (1) can be installed in a variety of locations. They are best installed on a flat surface to provide indirect lighting illuminating mechanical features, vehicle finish or for ground effects. Refer to the notes at the beginning of the Installation section. 5. Select the area or lines of the motorcycle to highlight, and suitable locations for each light pod. DO NOT permanently affix the light pods at this time. Lightly tape the pods in place temporarily until the desired visual effect is achieved Verify clearance from movement of rubber mounted engine or other moving parts, heat sources, or chafe points

REMOVAL 1. See Figure 3. Remove button-head screw (A) that attaches battery cover (B) to battery tray (C). 2. See Figure 1. Remove battery cover by lifting it over the two tabs on the battery tray. NOTE The original equipment battery cover trim has four pinch tabs on the reverse side that attach it to the battery cover. 3. See Figure 2. Remove original equipment battery cover trim from battery cover by pushing the four pinch tabs out of the battery cover using a pliers or suitable tool. INSTALLATION 1. Place battery cover over the two tabs on battery tray (C) and attach it to battery tray with button-head screw (A). Tighten screw to 20-40 in-lbs (2.3-4.6 Nm). 2. Obtain chrome battery cover trim (1) from kit. 3. Using a 50/50 isopropyl alcohol/water solution, thoroughly clean the surface where the chrome trim will be installed. Let it dry completely. NOTE Test the trim mount fit prior to removing the adhesive backing from the chrome battery cover trim. 4. Remove adhesive liner from the chrome battery cover trim. NOTE The ideal temperature should be at least 60° F (16° C) for proper adhesion of the chrome trim on the battery cover. 5. Center and install chrome trim onto the battery cover. Apply firm pressure for one minute using a cloth to prevent scratching the battery cover and battery trim. 6. Let the adhesive cure for 24 hours at no less than 60° F (16° C)

Battery • This scooter uses a sealed lead acid battery, it is unnecessary to check or add liquid. NOTE: Never open the electrolyte of a sealed battery. Remove the battery from the scooter and store separately in a well ventilated area when the scooter is not in operation for long periods of time Speedometer • Speed is measured in mph. Odometer • The total riding distance is indicated. Fuel gauge • The gauge indicates how much fuel is in the tank (the gauge does not work when the ignition switch is off). The needle moves from full “F” to empty “E” as your fuel decreases. Fill the tank with a good grade of 89-90 octane unleaded gasoline. High Beam Indicator LIght • The high beam light indicates that the high beam headlight is in use. NOTE: Apply the low beam to avoid obstructing the view of other drivers. Turn Signal Indication Light • The turn signals indicate that you are turning a chosen direction, push the button in the desired turning direction, it will return to the center, press the button in to turn off. 1. Follow the instructions in your Owner’s Manual to remove the seat and any other components (side covers, etc.) necessary to provide access to the battery. 2. Refer to the applicable view in Figure 1 for your model. Break the battery negative (-) connection by removing the hardware assembly from the negative battery terminal. 3. Break the positive (+) battery connection by removing the hardware assembly from the positive battery terminal. 4. Clean the battery terminals and cable connectors using a wire brush or sandpaper to remove any oxidation. 5. Apply a light coating of Harley-Davidson electrical contact lubricant (Part Number 99861-02) to the battery terminals, cable connectors, battery charging harness ring terminals and connector located under the weather- shield cap. Connect positive (+) battery cable first. If positive (+) cable should contact ground with negative (-) cable connected, the resulting sparks can cause a battery explosion, which could result in death or serious injury. (00068a) 6. Refer to the view in Figure 1 used for disassembly. Install the positive (RED) lead of the harness to the positive (+) battery post following the sequence shown. • On 1999 and earlier models (with original equipment), torque the positive (+) terminal post bolt to 40 in-lbs (4.5 Nm). • On 2000 and later models (with original equipment), torque the positive (+) terminal post bolt to 60-96 in-lbs (6.8-10.9 Nm). 7. Attach the negative (BLACK) lead of the harness to the negative (-) battery post following the sequence shown. • On 1999 and earlier models (with original equipment), torque the negative (-) terminal post bolt to 40 in-lbs (4.5 Nm). • On 2000 and later models (with original equipment), torque the negative (-) terminal post bolt to 60-96 in-lbs (6.8-10.9 Nm). Harness Routing Do not route the harness near any moving parts. Contact with moving parts may result in damage to harness. Refer to the following sections to determine the correct harness routing for your model. Be sure to avoid any components that may pinch or cut the harness, and avoid components that radiate heat. Take up any slack in the cable and store out of sight. Secure the harness with cable straps (H-D Part Number 10006), which can be purchased separately from any Harley Davidson Dealer. VRSC Model Harness Routing 1. See Figure 2. Route the battery harness/ connector (3) toward the front of the bike following the upper left frame tube. Cleanly tuck the in-line fuse (2) into the space in front of the battery. 2. Continue to route the harness/ gray connector to the front of the bike and behind the vent cover. Secure the harness with a cable strap and let the connector protrude past the cover for easy access. Trim any excess from the cable strap

CARE AND MAINTENANCE Voltmeter Test See Table 2. The voltmeter test provides a general indicator of battery condition. Check the voltage of the battery to verify that it is in a 100% fully-charged condition. If the open circuit (disconnected) voltage reading is below 12.7 V, charge the battery and then check the voltage again after the battery has set for one to two hours. If the voltage reading is 12.7 V or above, perform a load test. Table 2. Pay attention to all warnings and cautions within the manual and remove battery from battery box/tray. Battery Charging Batteries contain sulfuric acid, which could cause severe burns to eyes and skin. Wear a protective face shield, rubberized gloves and protective clothing when working with batteries. KEEP BATTERIES AWAY FROM CHILDREN. (00063a) 1. Never charge a battery without first reviewing the instructions for the charger being used. 2. Perform a voltmeter test to determine the state of charge. See BATTERY TESTING, VOLTMETER TEST. If battery needs to be charged, proceed to Step 3. Remove battery from motorcycle before charging. Electrolyte leakage will damage motorcycle parts. (00213a) Explosive hydrogen gas, which escapes during charging, could cause death or serious injury. Charge battery in a well-ventilated area. Keep open flames, electrical sparks and smoking materials away from battery at all times. KEEP BATTERIES AWAY FROM CHILDREN. (00065a) 3. See applicable service manual and remove the battery from the motorcycle. Place the battery on a level surface. 4. Inspect battery for damage. Replace battery if visibly damaged or frozen. 5. Inspect battery charger, verify that the charger leads are not damaged, frayed or loose
